Legend

Low  Low : Minimal bug activity.
Medium  Medium : Moderate bug activity.
High  High : Elevated bug activity.

None : Not in season, or not native, or weather conditions are such that there is no bug activity .

All forecasts are meant for mid afternoon and are intended as a guideline for the level of bug activity. Forecasts are also relative to an area's normal amount of bugs for the current time of year. A forecast of "High" for a city area, for instance, would not indicate the same intensity of bugs as a "High" for a wooded parkland area. For specific conditions, please contact the local parks and recreation offices in your location.

Tips and Prevention – How to protect yourself from biting insects

The best way to protect yourself from biting insects and diseases that they could be carrying is to adopt a responsible behaviour by minimizing your level of exposure. It is recommended to:

  • Wear tightly woven, light-coloured and long-sleeved clothes, shoes and socks.
  • Avoid exposure at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active.
  • If it's necessary to go out when mosquitoes are active, wear a head net and use insect repellent.
  • You can also help reduce mosquito nuisance by eliminating any kind of stagnant water sources around your house. All hollow objects which accumulate and retain rainwater over a period of 7 to 10 days must be emptied (bird baths, derelict pools, barrels, old tires, etc.).
